Guidelines Governing Postings on the ABO Website

News Articles

Any article from third party sources (on-line newspapers, magazines, etc.) should be sent to the Peer Review Committee (Keith Cooksey or John Benemann) for approval based on the standards mentioned below.

One or more ABO Members is mentioned.

The article generally supports the ABO's mission to develop viable commercial markets for renewable and sustainable products derived from algae. ABO's purpose is to act as a clearinghouse for information related to algae, their commercial applications, past and ongoing research, the algal biomass industry in general and to educate the ABO's membership, policy makers, the media, and those involved in other industry segments about the algal biomass industry.

The approval process will be abbreviated so that posting should occur within several days of the article being sent to the Committee. The articles would be posted in the "Industry News" tab with the disclaimer of no endorsement.

ABO in the News
A news article from a reputable, known source (not blogs) which includes a positive reference to the ABO should be sent to webmaster@algalbiomass.org (copy to Peer Review Committee) for posting without review.  ABO's own press releases will be posted here.

Member’s Press Releases
ABO will permit only Corporate or Platinum Members to post press releases.  Press releases will not be reviewed by the Peer Review Committee but rather submitted by members at this level directly to webmaster@algalbiomass.org with a copy to the Peer Review Committee.

Papers
This involves works that are not published for the popular media although the ABO web page should not be considered as a primary publication vehicle. These submissions will be scientific in nature (e.g., proposing a hypothesis and proving or disproving it) and at least provide background on biological, technological, process engineering, chemical, or some other technical subject.  By way of example see current postings. Submissions should be sent to the Peer Review Committee. They will be reviewed by an editorial board made up of members of the ABO. Links to a site of primary publication are also possible. We expect this site to be a library containing detailed technical/scientific information. This page will be most valuable to policy makers, investors, researchers and others who are interested in more than simply news.

Format

Please submit in “Word” or as a PDF file to webmaster@algalbiomass.org.

Algal Biomass Organization Questions Accuracy of University of Virginia Algae Life Cycle Study
ABO believes that reliance on obsolete data and faulty assumptions undermines all conclusions

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 25, 2010) - The Algal Biomass Organization, today challenged the conclusions of a published report in Environmental Science and Technology claiming that “conventional crops have lower environmental impacts than algae in energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and water.”  The report was based upon obsolete data and grossly outdated business models, and overlooked tremendous improvements in technology and processes across the production cycle. ABO strongly believes that these obsolete data and faulty assumptions seriously undermine the credibility of the study’s conclusions. View Full Story
