What is ProLipo?

ProLipo is an FDA approved, minimally invasive laser-assisted procedure for ablating and melting unwanted fat. The technique involves the use of fiber-delivered laser energy to the target fatty tissue. ProLipo requires the use of tumescent local anesthesia, and does not require general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. There is minimal downtime and recovery takes only a couple of days. In addition to ablating and melting fat, Pro Lipo also tightens skin through its collagen remodeling and neoformation effects.

Who is a candidate for ProLipo treatments?

Optimum candidates for ProLipo treatments are individuals with localized areas of fatty tissues that are resistant to diet and exercise as a method of removal.  Individuals who are considered poor candidates for ProLipo treatment often suffer from systemic medical illnesses (diseases that affect the organs or the entire body).

How are ProLipo treatments performed?

The ProLipo treatment involves injecting a local anesthetic into the targeted body area for fat removal and then using a cannula (hand piece) containing a laser light, which is inserted under the skin via small surgical incisions to ablate fat tissue. Targeted fatty tissue absorbs the wavelength energy of the laser and thus fat cells are eliminated. A single treatment session typically takes 1-4 hours to perform and generally involves some amount of fat suctioning.

Is ProLipo treatment permanent?

Just like any other liposuction procedure, many fat cells in the treatment area are destroyed, but not all. If they were, the skin would be stretched over muscle directly. Since fat cells are removed from the treatment area, if the patient gains weight, the fat will more likely accumulate in areas not treated. To best maintain the results from Pro Lipo, patients should maintain a healthy diet and exercise program. 

What is the recovery period like after each treatment?

The recovery period after the ProLipo treatment is typically limited to only mild pain and bruising. Patients are generally able to resume daily activities within 1-2 days following the ProLipo treatment session.

When will the maximum results of the ProLipo Treatment be visible?

Results with the ProLipo treatment are immediate and shrinkage, tightening and compaction of fatty tissue continues to occur over several weeks.

How many treatment sessions are possible?

The number of focal areas of adiposity comprising distinct body treatment areas for Pro Lipo ranges from 1-2, to as many as 6 or more. Factors like how many areas are being treated, whether treatment areas can be consolidated into one treatment session, or several treatment sessions are required can affect these numbers. The body usually needs between three and six months to recover before additional Pro Lipo treatments can be performed in a specific area.

How much does ProLipo treatment cost?

The cost of ProLipo treatment is variable and may depend on location, the skill of the physician, the number of areas being treated and the health practices of the patient post-procedure.
